It was early morning in Ponyville. Everypony was leaving their house to go work. The sun was shining, and a warm breeze blew in. At the train station, the first train scheduled for arrival stopped at the station. All the ponies had gotten off, but the last passenger stepped out cautiously. He looked like any other pony, with black hair, a red tail and mane, and a purple star for a cutie mark. There were just two big differences. He had the eyes of a dragon, and the wings of a bat. His name was DarkStar, and he was a bat pony.
DarkStar had been alone his entire life. He never knew who his parents were, and he was constantly moved from one home to another. By this point, DarkStar had lived all over Equestria. DarkStar wasn’t a bad pony, but because he was a bat pony he had a hard time fitting in. Other ponies were just too afraid of him. Even while riding on the train the other ponies would either stare or avoid eye contact with him.
As DarkStar walked down the street, ponies moved to get out of his way. He knew that they were scared of him. Ever since Nightmare Moon tried to plunge Equestria into eternal night bat ponies had been seen as monsters. Mr. and Mrs. Cake walked down the street with their babies Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake in strollers. DarkStar approached them, and tried to start up a conversation. “My, what beautiful children you have” DarkStar said. He smiled, showing his fangs. The sight of DarkStar’s razor sharp fangs caused the Cake babies to cry. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to scare them” DarkStar tried to explain. Mr. and Mrs. Cake just gave DarkStar a nasty stare, then rushed away from him.
DarkStar lowered his head. He walked over to a bench and sat down. Tears rolled down his face. “All I want is a friend” DarkStar whispered quietly to himself. DarkStar then felt a shadow over himself. He looked up and saw a fluffy pink pony looking at him. “Can I help you?” DarkStar asked. The fluffy pony only answered by sticking out her tongue and going “Pfpfpfpfpf.” DarkStar was confused. “If my appearance bothers you, I’ll just move” DarkStar was about to move when the fluffy pony stopped him. She then offered him a cupcake. “For me?” DarkStar took the cupcake. The fluffy pony smiled and nodded. “Thank you. Nopony has ever given me anything before” DarkStar ate the cupcake. “Mmm, delicious!” The fluffy pony then made a squee noise and hugged DarkStar, licking some of the frosting off of his nose.
DarkStar hugged the fluffy pony back. Nopony had ever hugged him before, and it felt so good, like he was being filled with love. The fluffy pony the motioned for DarkStar to follow her. DarkStar followed the fluffy pony to the Ponyville library. The fluffy pony knocked at the door, and none other than Princess Twilight answered. “Hello Fluffle, who’s your friend?” Princess Twilight asked. Fluffle Puff gave her usual “Ppfppfpfpfpf” DarkStar stepped forward and introduced himself. “It’s an honor to meet you Princess Twilight. My name is DarkStar” Twilight giggled. “ There is no need to call me princess. Call me Twilight. And it is a pleasure to meet you, DarkStar. Please come in.”
DarkStar entered the library. “So you’re a bat pony? I haven’t seen much of your kind around” said Twilight. “We mostly live in caves” replied DarkStar. “What brings you to Ponyville?” DarkStar let out a sigh. “I’ve been wondering around Equestria all my life. I have no friends, no family. Ponyville was just another stop until I met Fluffle Puff” Twilight turned to Fluffle Puff who was eating a plate of tacos. “Yeah, she does have the ability to fill others with happiness and love. That’s why I brought her over to help me” DarkStar was confused. “Help you? With what?” A voice suddenly came from the top of the stairs. “With reforming me” DarkStar looked up and couldn’t believe his eyes. It was Chrysalis, queen of the changelings.
“Chrysalis, but I thought you were defeated at the royal wedding” DarkStar said. Chrysalis flew down and landed on Fluffle Puff. “I was, and for the longest time I vowed revenge. But then Twilight brought me here and introduced me to Fluffle Puff. Since then I have been feeding on her endless supply of love and working to change my ways” DarkStar poked his hoof at the floor. “I’ve never had anypony love me” Twilight approached DarkStar. “Why don’t you stay? Fluffle Puff clearly likes you, and there’s more than enough of her to go around” For the first time since he could remember, DarkStar’s eyes lit up. “Really? I can stay?” Chrysalis put her hoof on his shoulder. “Of course, just don’t hog Fluffle Puff for too long, I got here first” “Deal!” DarkStar said with a big smile. Fluffle Puff ran over and hugged them both. From that day on, DarkStar had a permanent home. And ponies he could call his family.
